Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Commercial Multiple Peril (CMP) Underwriter to join our underwriting team. This role is integral in assessing, underwriting, and managing a diverse portfolio of commercial risks. You will evaluate risk exposures, apply sound underwriting principles, and make informed decisions to ensure profitable growth. The ideal candidate brings experience in commercial underwriting, knowledge of CMP products, and a proactive approach to client and broker relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate property characteristics, claims history and other pertinent data to establish insurability and risk level
  • Perform risk analysis and assessments in compliance with company underwriting guidelines and state regulations
  • Make decisions on acceptance, rejection, or modification of insurance applications based on underwriting policies
  •  Work closely with agents, brokers, and customer service teams to explain underwriting decisions and answer questions
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards in underwriting practices
  • Regularly review assigned book of business to maintain balanced portfolio performance and identify growth opportunities
  • Monitor market trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes to adjust underwriting practices as necessary
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on underwriting practices, product changes, and industry developments


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience in the insurance industry
  • 4+ years of commercial underwriting experience, specifically with CMP products.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial property and liability coverages, underwriting guidelines, and industry practices
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to make sound decisions quickly
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Workspace applications


Preferred:

  • Professional designations such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or AU (Associate in Underwriting) are a plus
  • Experience in working with a multi-state environment and familiarity with state-specific regulations
